Where You're Meant to Be

Jun 02, 2021

My educator friend, that there is magic in this world and you have it! You have the magic, you have the mindset, willpower, grit, and tenacity to lead everyone through the storm. You are relentless and you are a survivor.

At the end of the school year, I encouraged you to FINISH STRONG. Now you are gearing up for a new year without really stopping since the last one. Remember, you aren't here to survive, you are here to thrive!

At the beginning of the school year and especially at times like this, times that will be documented in the history books, you might be called to revisit your personal and professional mission statement.

That led me to reflect on a few things...leadership, organizational impact...the meaning and purpose of life...you know how it goes - down the rabbit hole...

Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.
-Sheryl Sandberg

The test of organization is not genius. It is its capacity to make common people achieve uncommon performance.
-Peter F. Drucker

And, almost as a gift to wrap up my ongoing reflections on the start of the school year, I was on the phone with a colleague from my early years of teaching. He's a Principal now and he quoted "There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be..." (All You Need is Love by The Beatles).

Focus on one day at a time. Do what you can and don't beat yourself up about what you can't. Uplift yourself and those around you. Don't tear yourself down with self-criticism and worry over what you cannot control or fix. Don't keep yourself up at night worrying and fretting about what tomorrow might bring. Go to sleep tonight and every night feeling good about the person that you are, your chosen profession, your strength, grit and tenacity.

Be gentle with yourself and always remember "There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be..."

Lead with love. Stay strong and be well! I'm here if you need me!
